Ylon Schwartz is a professional chess player in which he has achieved a master status as well as a professional poker player who hails from Brooklyn district in the New York area of the United States of America. His claim to fame was with the fourth placed finish that he achieved in the No Limit Hold ‘em Poker event in the 2008 World Series of Poker championship in the $ 10,000 event that was played on the 9th of November in 2008. Prior to gaining a fourth place finish in the main event of the 2008 championship, he already had 11 money finishes and he is an avid online poker player where he plays under the screen name of Tenth Planet.
When he was a teenage, Schwartz won $ 2 when he beat some park boys playing chess on the streets around the Washington Square Park area in Manhattan. He soon began to hustle people to part with their money regularly getting $ 100 from passer bys and thus, began his career as a gambler. He peaked with a rating of 2408 with the United States Chess Federation in 2008 and by 2008; he had gained a ranking of 2304 from the United States Chess Federation, at which time, his FIDE ranking was 2259. As a result of his FIDE ranking reaching 2300, he soon attained the title of FIDE Master. As an only child, he was an uninspired student, and left the Borough of Manhattan Community College. He took many jobs from time to time to survive in New York and chess to him was just a way to get some additional cash to sustain himself.
But his love for gambling introduced him to the world of poker and once he discovered how easily he could gain tons of money from poker, he gave up all of his jobs to concentrate fully on poker and as a result, he has had 18 money finishes in the World Series of Poker and although he has not won the World Series of Poker Bracelet even once till date, he still is one of the best poker players around at the moment. He has yet to compete in the prestigious European Poker Tour but has played on the World Poker Tour and has had one money finish as well. The highest ITM main Event finish for Ylon Schwartz is a 4th place finish achieved in 2008.
